On Sunday, June 25, 2023, three people were horrifically killed in Newton, MA.

Gilda “Jill” D’Amore, 73; her husband of 50 years, Bruno D’Amore, 74; and Gilda’s mother, Lucia Arpino, 97; were stabbed and beaten in an attack inside their home. This triple homicide is the starting point in this installment of “Psalm Sense” from Paulist Fr. John Geaney, who lives at the Paulist Center in Boston.

“Why things like this occur is very, very difficult for us to explain,” Fr. Geaney says. “Huh? What is going on here in our society, that in a quiet little place just outside of Boston, people can be killed so mercilessly as occurred in this case?”

Fr. Geaney connects his reflection to verses of Psalm 101,

A veteran Catholic communicator and pastor, Fr. Geaney lives today at the Paulist Center in Boston. He is a past  rector of the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Grand Rapids, MI.
