In this installment of Psalm Sense, Paulist Fr. John Geaney reflects on the importance of prayer during sudden life-threatening moments “and all the moments of life that come our way.” Fr. Geaney was inspired by the prayers he witnessed on January 2, 2023, when professional football player Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills suffered cardiac arrest during the game. (He later recovered.)

Fr. Geaney connects his reflection to verses at the end of Psalm 42.

A veteran Catholic communicator and pastor, Fr. Geaney lives today at the Paulist Center in Boston. He most recently served as rector of the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Grand Rapids, MI.
